Science- What is a shadow?
The children began by understanding what a shadow is- the dark area created by a object blocking or stopping the light.
The children then spent time using their hands to block light making shadows. They were tasked to make shadows of animals using only their hand.
Children then looked at different materials to predict which item would make the darkest shadow. The children used the vocabulary of transparent, translucent and opaque to make their predictions, giving reasoning as to why they thought it would make the darkest shadow. The children then checked their predictions with a comparative test. The children discovered that opaque items make the darkest shadows as they do not allow light to pass through them.
