Anglo-Saxon day
To finish off our topic of the Anglo-Saxons, year 4 had an Anglo-Saxon day. In the morning, the children were split into 3 groups to learn about 3 different areas of Anglo-Saxon life and culture.
With Mrs Steed, the children learnt about Anglo-Saxon food and drink. The children made oatcakes using ingredients that could be found in Anglo-Saxon England. With Mr Read, the children learnt about Anglo-Saxon clothing and the natural dyes used to colour clothes in the Early Middle Ages. As a practical activity, the children dyed a coin pouch with a natural dye. With Mrs Lavery, the children learnt about Anglo-Saxon writing and runes. They created runes with sticks.
In the afternoon, the children learnt about Anglo-Saxon justice and punishment, and acted out some of them to a very humorous effect! A wonderful day was had by all, thank you for all your support with the children's outfits. They looked amazing!
