Science: Intent and Purpose Statement

At Boston West Academy, our intent in science is to foster curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of discovery. Through a high-quality, engaging science curriculum, we aim to develop children’s understanding of the world around them and encourage them to think like scientists.

We use Snap Science to support our planning and delivery, ensuring progression of knowledge, skills, and scientific enquiry across all year groups. Lessons are carefully structured but flexible, allowing us to respond to children's interests and questions.

We place a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, with regular practical experiments, outdoor learning opportunities, and real-life contexts that bring science to life. Pupils are encouraged to predict, observe, investigate, and evaluate—learning by doing and exploring.

We also promote the use of rich scientific vocabulary, enabling children to communicate their ideas clearly and confidently. Our aim is for every child to develop the skills to question, reason, and explore the world with curiosity and wonder.

We proudly celebrate British Science Week each year with a dedicated whole-school science day. This includes exciting competitions, a wide range of experiments across all year groups, and a whole-school interactive science assembly designed to wow and inspire the children. It's a fantastic opportunity to come together as a school community to celebrate the wonder and excitement of science.
